UNEXPECTED WINES AND PERFECT PAIRINGS - KAY ROTHERY

A Culinary and Wine Journey at Elsham Golf Club

This meeting was held at Elsham Golf Club, where we were entertained by Ben Straw from The Lincoln Wine School, who brought along some interesting wines to enjoy with dinner. It was an enjoyable way to savour both the food and the wine.

On arrival, we were presented with a cheerful Ackerman X Rosé from the Loire. Fresh and crisp, this Chenin Noir-based wine was ideal for a late summer evening. For the first course, a feta and strawberry salad, we tasted Andeluna Blanc de Malbec Edición Limitada 2023/25 from the Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina. White Malbec came as something of a surprise at first, offering a glimpse of what can be achieved with the variety, and it paired well with the starter.

The main course was Hungarian goulash, accompanied by Enosophia DIKA Frankovka from Slavonia, Croatia, certainly something new for many of us. This was set against Monterustico Dogliani DOCG 2022 from Piedmont, Italy. Both were excellent wines, and opinions differed as to which best suited the goulash.

To accompany the apple pie dessert, we enjoyed a Niepoort 10-Year-Old Tawny Port from the Douro Valley, much appreciated by the port lovers among us.

This was a really interesting evening, with a good selection of wines paired with the lovely food produced by the Golf Club team.
