NIGEL GREEN'S SELECTION OF FAVOURITE DINNER WINES BY DEAN WATT
Following the Section AGM, Nigel Green, Guild President, presented a selection of his “go-to” dinner wines.
The welcome fizz was Perle d’Aurore Rosé Crémant de Bourgogne from Louis Bouillot. Produced in the Champagne style since 1877, it is known for its fruity aromas and fine, persistent bubbles.
The intermediate wine was Grande Réserve Bergerac Sauvignon/Sémillon 2024. This fine wine from the Dordogne has a good balance, owing to the combination of the two grape varieties in a 70:30 ratio.
The first starter wine was Signé Bourgogne Montagny 2023, a 100% Chardonnay from “the land of the thistles”, and an excellent accompaniment to salmon.
The second was Oltre Mare Pecorino Colline Teatine IGT 2023, from Italy’s Adriatic coast. Again, it paired excellently with the salmon, offering a crisp and refreshing finish.
The first red served with the main course was Barbera d’Alba 2021 from Fratelli. From the northern Piedmont region of Italy, this is a fruity, well-balanced wine.
The second red was Rasteau La Réserve 2012 from Camille Cayran. Made from Grenache, together with Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes, this is a lovely, rich red from the southern Rhône Valley.
Finally, the dessert wine was Château Bastor-Lamontagne Sauternes 2005. A lovely sweet wine from Bordeaux, it was, by a narrow margin, the most popular wine of the evening.
Many thanks are due to Nigel for his excellent presentation, delivered in his usual knowledgeable and entertaining style.
