WHITBY'S SEPTEMBER 2025 MATCH REPORT BY JAMES CARSON

Our meeting was held at our usual venue of Sanders Yard Bistro in Church Street, Whitby with 34 members and guests attending on what was a rather dark, cold and gloomy evening – it certainly felt like autumn had arrived.

Due to a slight mix up with the original presenter our very own President Nigel Green generously stepped in to present a fine selection of wines. In place of the more customary focus of describing each of the wines in detail he chose ones which evoked certain memories and occasions to him and gave us, the often humorous, anecdotes attached to them.

The evening was definitely helped along by Nigel’s amusing anecdotes. These ranged from him dancing with royalty, getting sacked, holidaying in Italian Lakes to visiting friends in Bergerac and walking the Loire Valley.

Of course no Whitby meeting would be complete without our raffle (no surprise that wine is always the prize!) with two winners Rob Smith and Heather Newton.

The evening was rounded off by our Chairman Malcolm Watt who thanked Nigel for such an enjoyable presentation and also reminded us that the next meeting, on 20th October, is our Annual General Meeting as well.
